TAKIS at TATE Modern

Takis,  described as a “tireless worker of the magnetic fields …”, a master of ‘electromagnetism’, and a successor of Marcel Duchamp, is this year celebrated in London with a large exhibition at TATE Modern, the largest, in fact,  of the artist’s work ever held in the UK. The exhibition, showing works from the 1950s to the early 2000s, including a rarely seen kinetic pendulum sculpture, has received quite a lot of publicity and it has been much expected

RESTART : Organic and Analytic Art in Russian Avant Garde

This is my 2nd blogpost about the SMCA’s latest show RESTART (the show is now over, of course) . In my first post, I talked about the ‘Lubki’, comic art from the Russian Avant Garde . This new post is dedicated to another small section of the show, which was actually hosted in just one room, the Analytic and the Organic Art, which are in fact quite interesting movements under the bigger umbrella of the Russian Avant Garde.

An evening with Jeffrey Eugenides

“But maybe they understood more about life than I did. From an early age they knew what little value the world placed in books, and so didn’t waste their time with them. Whereas I, even now, persist in believing that these black marks on white paper bear the greatest significance, that if I keep writing, I might be able to catch the rainbow of consciousness in a jar.”

RESTART : Comic art from the Russian Avant Garde (Lubki)

If there is a place, other than Russia, where you can enjoy seeing Russian Avant Garde art works, this is Thessaloniki (Greece), as amazing as it may seem! The State Museum of Contemporary Art in Thessaloniki hosts  the Costakis collection with 1.275 masterpieces of prominent Russian Avant Garde artists. As you can imagine, I am a frequent visitor because, even though, this is their permanent collection, the art works are not exhibited all year round  but rather in smaller numbers once or twice a year. The current exhibition showcases about 400 works and ….off I went to spend a few hours there.
